Neda&Friends@Getxophoto Festival 2012

As a fan of photography, when my eyes first caught glimpse of the Getxophoto's poster advertised at metro, I knew I had to have a second look. Until I went to their webisite and saw it myself, checked out some things I think I could be part of.

On August 30, 2012, my sister, tita Paz and I went to Algorta and attended this talk by Frank Kalero and Christian Caujolle and Marcos López and Alejandro Castellote. When we got to Torrene 3, Algorta, I was already amazed to see Marcos López work on a mural in their headquarter.

"18:30 CHRISTIAN CAUJOLLE AND FRANK KALERO. Christian Caujolle, Vu agency director, will talk with Frank Kalero, GETXOPHOTO'S curator and introduce the PhotoPhnomPenh Festival of Camboya run by Caujolle.
19:30 MARCOS LÓPEZ AND ALEJANDRO CASTELLOTE. A Madrilenian curator expert in Latin American photography (Alejandro Castellote) and a rebel artist incorporated to the system (Marcos López), will, in public, think over about their concepts about the honesty in the creative concepts; the trends of contemporary photography and the art market, thinking aloud and exposing their opinions. Chasing up and blabbing about the world of photography as if they were drinking some pints in a pub. A loose wolf and a tied lamb. Anything can happen anything can be expected."

On the last day of August 2012, I was able to get a seat at Teatro Escuela de Música Andres Isasi located at Las Arenas for myself and some of the family, who are Eva, Tita Paz, Ate Katherine, Tita Evelyn, and Tita Lilia.

I comfortably enjoyed the work presentations of Jon Uriarte with his headless subjects, Paola de Grenet, Javier Tles presenting the flexibility of those amazing gymnasts, Jacqueline Roberts focusing on kids with black and white drama, Sofie Knijff with the portraits of the kids whom she asked what do they want to be when they grow up (she speaks english!). And as said in getxophoto's website, the opening ended with the projection of Roger Ballen's work which showed pictures that made people feel what he's trying to tell. In my opinion, I think his pictures represent death, peace, freedom and innocence. There was a video clip shown which I remembered I have watched just a months after we arrived here at Spain and I think it was really cool and funny. I dunno who or what mentalgassi is, but I'm guessing he's an artist who thought of this concept.

Aside from showing the video, mentalgassi himself showed too and said "Childhood: we do not say what we're gonna do tomorrow", that of course is regarding this year's theme, which is In praise of childhood.

As of Marcos López' "Sireno de Getxo", here's the video of something about how it was produced.

Some of the main casts of the festival weren't around, but of course their works were recognized. I forgot the "Getxophoto party" told on their website right after we went out of the building because we went straight home. Wonder what happened there?

I wasn't really so contented about what I've seen, though it's really just the start of the event. When I woke up the next morning, I was having a wanderlust so I decided to go to Algorta together with my strong army (which I was quite wrong somehow) and get lost and see those things we've never seen before and places we've never been before. It was so fun travelling by foot because you want to see more and more amazing  pictures by amazing photographers. For keepsake, I tried to make a vlog, do video of our trip, and here it is.

I was so grateful when the Getxophoto team watched our video and even posted it on their facebook account and tweeted on twitter too! Plus, I got a followback! I love them! :)

I also tried to have a picture of myself in every point we reached. I told myself I was gonna post it here but I realized that it might be too narcissistic, so just my favorite one. Besides, I uploaded them on my facebook account for storage purposes. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.4516764919856.2190265.1312711425&type=3

Say hooray for the tourism of this event, 'cause with the photos scattered around this certain pueblo, and people wanting to see the bigger picture, people will really try to go around and see those for themselves. Another thing is the concept of every gallery. Like in Jon Uriarte's, where pictures printed are small. Like it won't be what one might think of doing when doing an exhibit. Like the picture says, "Come near me, I won't bite". And the room where Roger Ballen's and Margaret M. de Lange's works are displayed makes you feel the drama by the ambience of the room. I love Paola de Grenet's pictures on the table. I think it's fun and it gives more life on the café. Frieke Janssens' has the most unique gallery of all, where visitors have to peek on a peephole to see his amazing pictures. His subjects are smoking kids, and the whole picture is hidden inside a trailer. Like it tells something. In Jon Von Holleben's, it's a very creative one too, where too much editing is not an option. Actually I've seen the concept used by one of the photographers in the Philippines, Mr. Oly Ruiz, but he used colored chalks and drawed some different backgrounds and his subject just wore costumes to make it more appropriate for the picture. Sofie Knijff's photos of kids on a window in a bar is also nice. Try to imagine the scene. Kids photographed while thinking of their dreams on a place where people are drinking. Either having the time of their life, or the other story.

Promising headstart of the tour: Aixerrota, Restaurant Cubita at Bidezabal
Bro and cousin. They are amazed to see that this cat they call "Kitty Galore" is real.

Isn't it cute to have your photographs be at tables?

Coldplay's Strawberry Swing music video looks like the concept of Oly Ruiz's work, which was like Jon Von Holleben's. Sorry, I don't intend to compare. It's just nice sharing different beautiful works.

Don't you just feel the amuzement in Jill Greenberg's work?
